Monday, Jan. 5, 2009
In many ways every poem is original in that it expresses the particular and unique world view of the poet who is relating his/her own life experience, personal observation, or individual thought in a brand new way. Like the song composed by Paul Anka which Frank Sinatra made his signature piece, essentially, every poet does it “My Way.”

Nonprofit finds it hard to solicit money from Collier County

Friday, Jan. 2, 2009
Kathleen Reynolds is finding out that in a tough economy, it is difficult to solicit money for good causes.
Reynolds, the chief executive officer of the Early Learning Coalition, learned that lesson last month when she asked Collier County Commissioners for about $150,000 to fund childcare for underprivileged working families.
The money would be the county’s match for a $3.5 million grant that would contribute to the Early Learning Coalitions’ school readiness program. The program, which serves more than 1,100 children in the county, allows low-income families to receive free childcare from about 100 childcare providers in Collier County.
